Brian McManus is our Youth Work County Services Manager with Clare Youth Service (CYS) and like all CYS managers is engaged in weekly face to face work with young people and volunteers. He joined CYS after relocating to Clare from his native Tallaght in Dublin over twenty years ago.
As well as being a professional youth worker, Brian is an experienced secondary school teacher and volunteer, involved with young people for over 30 years.
Currently his areas of work include the management of targeted projects for young people who are considered more disadvantaged or are involved with crime. His direct work involves supporting, training and vetting of volunteers running local youth clubs as well as staff vetting, training and development. He has a particular interest in the CYS Erasmus+ programme and facilitating the young people involved with Comhairle na nÓg – the regional Youth Parliament to design and deliver their project.
Brian has a strong interest in reversing the current trend in Irish Youth Work which is moving towards increased targeted work and which views young people as problems to be solved with short term solutions.
