Drug Education & Prevention Project

Drug Education & Prevention Project

DEPP is based in the Carmody street youth centre and is open to all young people in the Ennis area
The programme delivers honest and effective drug education to young people. The project also focuses on prevention programmes which are designed to help young people become aware of risk factors they might have in their lives while supporting them to build protective factors against substance misuse.

What do we do?

The DEPP runs regular drug education group work programmes, as well as skills based prevention programmes such as;

  • Cooking group
  • Make-Up groups
  • Drug information drop-ins
  • Natural highs Programme (which is based on outdoor activities as a means of promoting physical and mental health using kayaking, caving, surfing, hiking artery)
  • One to one support
  • Drug education and awareness workshops

These programmes provide young people with interactive and fun ways to increase their awareness of drug and alcohol topics. Many programmes aim to build resilience and coping mechanisms, which help them to deal with peer pressure & life skills.

The workers also link with the Carmody St. youth café which is a safe drug and alcohol free space for young people aged 14-17.

Who can take part?

All Young people who have a placement in the community training centre and any young person aged 14-17 can drop in to the youth café in Carmody street which is open on Saturdays – alternative you can contact the worker below to arrange a meet.
